Power Factor Correction Calculator

Calculate the exact capacitor bank rating (kVAR) needed to correct your plant's power factor, reduce maximum demand charges, and eliminate utility penalty surcharges — as per Indian DISCOM tariff norms.

Plant Load Data

Enter values from your latest energy audit or utility bill
kW
Enter a valid load value (kW > 0).
Present average kW demand from your monthly energy bill or substation records.
PF
0.80
0.50 0.70 0.85 0.95 0.99
PF
0.99
Most Indian DISCOMs mandate ≥ 0.95. Targeting 0.99 qualifies for incentive rebates.

Savings Estimation (optional)
Used to estimate penalty surcharge removal per DISCOM norms (threshold: PF = 0.95).
₹/kVA
Per-kVA demand charge from your tariff schedule (typically ₹150–350/kVA in India).

Calculation method: Capacitor bank Q = P × (tan φ₁ − tan φ₂) per IS/IEC standards. Penalty savings based on standard DISCOM surcharge of 1% per 0.01 PF unit below 0.95 threshold. Incentive rebate of 0.5% per 0.01 unit above 0.95 applied where applicable.

Results are indicative calculations for planning purposes. Actual capacitor sizing must be validated by a qualified electrical engineer per IS 1180 / CEA Regulations. Tariff structures vary by DISCOM and state.
